1st module: Taking the Mystery Out of Black Boxes:
At the end of this module, you will have a greater understanding of the history, development and
evolution of vehicle black boxes, the type of information it records, and how this information can
be used on claims to deny or favourably settle a claim due to overwhelming evidence. Black Box
evidence can provide great leverage and strategy on a claim because it ultimately tells you what
really happened. This module serves as some background for our next module, as the vehicle
black box is the ‘brain’ behind autonomous vehicle functions.
2nd Module: Autonomous Vehicles; The Driverless Frontier:
At the end of this module, you will have a greater understanding of driverless vehicle technology,
how it works, and why it is being developed. We will also explore various topics within this field that
are still in the works and being debated, such as cyber security issues, exposure to other parties/insurers,
ethical issues and more.
Mr. Kenneth Cowie is a Forensic Engineering Specialist with Kodsi Engineering. He graduated from the
University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a diploma in Technology,
Management, & Entrepreneurship. Mr. Cowie is a collision reconstructionist whom specializes in vehicle
evidence preservation, vehicle black box system retrieval and analysis, and fraud based investigations. Mr.
Cowie’s other areas of expertise includes civil roadway safety & design including signage, marking, geometry,
